Attention leaf peepers: It’s your time to shine.

Fall foliage season is right around the bend, and SmokyMountains.com is back with its interactive map that promises to give travelers the most accurate data on where and when the leaves will turn their vibrant kaleidoscope of colors.

According to the site, it uses a "refined data model that depends on a combination of factors," including both historical and forecasted temperature and precipitation readings, the unique tree types in each geographic region, and even user-generated data, which the team says is the real game-changer.

"A couple of years ago, we introduced the capability for end-users to provide real-time leaf reports that will impact both updates and future models," the website shared in a release provided to Travel + Leisure. "However, similar to any meteorological forecast that is dependent on weather variables, the leaf predictions are not 100% accurate. This is why we added the ability for end-users to submit real-time photos last year as well. After publishing our predictive fall foliage map for nearly a decade, we are confident in our data sources, process, and algorithm."

So, when will things peak in the 2024 fall foliage season? According to the website, Tennessee will see its foliage peak in late October, from October 21-October 25.

Things will light up a little earlier across New England, with Maine seeing its peak at the end of September and into early October. Vermont and New Hampshire are both expected to experience their peaks in early October, between Oct. 7 and Oct. 11. (Though parts of New Hampshire will also see their best colors even earlier, between Sept. 30 to Oct. 4.)

Further south, Massachusetts and Rhode Island will see their peak foliage come in around Oct. 7 through Oct. 14. New York is also expected to see its peak around the same time, between Oct. 7 and Oct. 11.

Around the nation, in Washington State, Virginia, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, and Maryland, peepers expect to see the leaves begin changing around mid to late October, peaking toward the end of the month,

And in Colorado, the leaves are expected to begin to change toward the end of September, with the peak hitting between Oct. 14 and Oct. 25. Ready to plot out your fall foliage getaway?
